All Done Blown up...

The trade of Matt Schaub to the Texans definitely blows up my mock draft and continues to make the Houston front office look silly. In exchange for a lousy backup QB, Atlanta moves up two spots to number 8, grabs an early 2nd rounder, and gets what will most likely be another early 2nd round pick in 2008. Very sweet deal for the Falcons.

Houston's move down to 10 makes the pick of OT Levi Brown quite probable assuming Miami at 9 doesn't snap him up. Another likely scenario is the Vikes at 7 and Houston at 10 swapping picks for David Carr. At 10 the Vikes would have a line on DE Jamaal Anderson, S Laron Landry or OT Levi Brown. They also more reasonably grab a WR at 10 than at 7, but considering the depth at WR, I'd wait till round 2.

I think Atlanta will still grab Landry at 8 and use their two early 2nd round picks on a DE and a WR.

Other things that may change my draft is that I missed that OG Dielman re-signed with the Chargers, the Bears are likely to complete a trade for S Archuletta, and Cato June ended up in Tampa Bay. We still need to see where LB Lance Briggs shows up and I suspect Washington might move out of 5 to add picks one the first day.

I do have a proposal for the Briggs situation - trade Briggs and the Bears early 2nd round pick (5th in round 2) to the Cheifs for their 1st rounder at 23. Essentially the Bears move up 13 spots and get two first rounders. At 23, the Bears should be able to land one of the better, if not best LB prospect and use their pick at 31 on an OG. TE Olsen is also possibly on the board at 23.

Another potential trade - If Calvin Johnson doesn't get picked by the Raiders at 1, he will fall to 4. Tampa could be tempted with the Falcons 7th pick and one of their 2nd rounders to give the Falcons the 4 spot to get Calvin Johnson.
